Yellowjackets- Marcus Baylor

Hey all,

I saw the Yellowjackets at Berk's Jazz Fest this past Friday. Bob Mintzer's big band also sat in on some Yellowjackets tunes.

Marcus played great. He has a really light touch...(I got the feeling he used to live in an apartment and had to practice VERY quietly... [img]tongue.gif[/img] )I was really impressed with his ability to play intricate grooves at such a low volume. He played exactly the same even when the Big Band played. It was a nice show.

I almost bumped into Steve Hass as I entered the hotel- I was gonna say hey but he seemed to be in a hurry...he's playing with Manhattan Transfer.

Saw the Jackets a few weeks ago here in Mexico. It was a great concert, a little short but intense.
Marcus played great, he's the perfect drummer for the Jackets.... but somehow I still miss W. K.

He has a peculiar way of playing, using a lot of arm motion, but almost stopping just before hitting the drum, so it gave the impression of hitting hard, but he's not. He has a beautiful sound and touch.

After the Jackets it was Wayne Shorter Quartet, with Brian Blade [img]eek.gif[/img] this guys are completely apart, I have no words to describe the experience of having these four monsters playing in front of you!!!
